An argument, a pocket knife, a flat tire, a 911 call and lies all made for a dramatic Arizona night on Tuesday, July 27. Danielle Dykins was arrested at the end of the day and currently faces charges of aggravated assault and child abuse.
Police reports describe the alleged crime as having started with a late-night argument between Dykins, 23, and her boyfriend, 32. They were reportedly arguing over money and drugs at the boyfriend's house, wherein Dykins' infant was also present.
The verbal fight became dangerous, and Dykins allegedly used a pocket knife to cut her boyfriend's hand. When police investigated the incident, they found the cut on his hand and scratches on his body, but none of his injuries were so serious that he needed medical treatment.
Marks of violence were also discovered on Dykins' body. She suffered a black eye and a cut in the same area. But witnesses to the incident state that Dykins' boyfriend is not responsible for those injuries -- even though Dykins told police that he banged her head against his kitchen counter. Witness testimony claims that Dykins hurt herself on purpose and lied about being the victim of domestic violence.
Dykins, not her boyfriend, has been arrested as a result of the domestic dispute. The more troubling allegation stemming from the dispute is the charge of child abuse. According to the police report, Dykins' baby daughter was hurt during the incident. She suffered an injury to her head when Dykins allegedly was carrying her and accidentally hit her head on the wall during the argument.
At that point, Dykins left her boyfriend's house with the baby and planned to take her to the hospital. Her plan was thwarted due to a flat tire, which witnesses claim that Dykins caused earlier using the pocket knife. Likely out of desperation to get her daughter help, Dykins called police to the scene.
Upon arrival, officials arranged for the baby to get to a local Arizona hospital. Her head injury was not critical, and she was soon released.
Dykins was arrested shortly after police got involved and talked to witnesses. We will update you when this case moves forward.
