A recent National Highway Traffic Safety Administration survey found that 17 million Americans admitted to drinking and driving over the past year. The Southern Arizona D.U.I. Task Force upped their effort to catch drunk drivers a couple of weeks ago, and that increased effort will run through the Labor Day weekend through September 6.
If you haven't already noticed, expect there to be extra law enforcement presence on the roadways over the long holiday weekend. The extra officers will be specifically looking for impaired drivers. There will also be DUI checkpoints set up around the state checking drivers for DUI and other infractions.
If you've had one two many drinks over the last summer celebration this Labor Day weekend, AAA Arizona is offering a free tow service for you, your car and one passenger to your home for the second year. AAA Arizona's "Tipsy Tow" service will not bring you to another event or drinking establishment, but will take you home or to a hotel where you were already planning to stay. If you find you need the Tipsy Tow service you can call 1-800-AAA-HELP.

If you happen to be stopped by law enforcement officers this weekend, you must stop your vehicle; provide driver license, registration and insurance upon request; and exit the vehicle upon request. You should remain courteous and polite and you should ask to speak with an attorney prior to making any decision on submitting to a blood, breath, urine or any physical or medical test. So long as it does not interfere with the investigation, the officer should allow you the opportunity to call an attorney for advice.
