Being a famous hip-hop star didn't save rapper Tone Loc from facing the legal consequences of a domestic violence charge. Back in June, the "Funky Cold Medina" and "Wild Thing" artist wound up in the spotlight when the story came out that he had gotten into an altercation with his child's mother.

A domestic violence case that started in June has come to an end this fall, with Loc recently changing his plea and facing a judge's sentencing. The rap star changed his initial not guilty plea to a no contest plea and was sentenced to spend a day in jail. He reportedly served three hours of that time before posting bond. He has more terms of his sentencing to satisfy, however.

Often, domestic violence matters stem from a place of extreme emotion. The exact details behind Loc's argument with his child's mother are unknown, but it is easy to see how family dynamics can take control of a person's emotions. The judge presiding over this celebrity case evidently saw in Loc that he could use some lessons on how to control his temper in the future, which is why he is required to participate in extensive anger management counseling. Community service is also a necessary part of his sentencing.

Another aspect of the case against Loc was that authorities reportedly found that he owned an assault rifle when they responded to the domestic dispute. While that might be true, reports also assert that Loc did not use the rifle whatsoever during the altercation. Too often in domestic violence cases the public assumes the worst of a defendant. The weapons charge reportedly played no part in the argument that occurred that day.

Moving on from accusations of domestic abuse can be difficult for a person. If Loc satisfies the requirements of his sentencing, it's only fair that the public treats and remembers him as the '80s rap legend he is.
