The dissolution of a romantic relationship can be a heart-wrenching and stressful experience. Generally, neither person is a model of grace and respectful behavior. This is particularly the case when the separated couple has children together. Sometimes a party may seek a restraining order due to a legitimate fear of harassment or violence. In other cases a person may seek a restraining order simply to discredit or antagonize the other person.

The disagreeable atmosphere inherent in many romantic break-ups was illustrated in a report about the interactions between two Phoenix area individuals who had previously been involved in a romantic relationship. Local law enforcement officials are recommending assault charges after the woman accused the man of grabbing her arm and spitting on her when she revealed that she was dating another man.

According to local news reports, the ex-girlfriend had a restraining order in effect against her former boyfriend. But the two had agreed that the man could bring the couple's children over to the woman's apartment for Halloween trick-or treating. Once there, the two adults entered into a discussion in which the woman explained that she was now dating another man. It was then that the man was accused of grabbing her and spitting on her.

The Arizona court system seems well equipped to handle certain sorts of disputes. When there is a disagreement about a commercial contract, the court can dispassionately adjudicate the dispute. But when the heart of the matter is an emotional and intrapersonal dispute, things can become more complicated. If you are involved in a personal romantic dispute that suddenly becomes a legal matter it is important to work with an experienced and knowledgeable attorney who will take the time to fully understand the unique dynamics of your situation.
